Gingham Style

Who would have thought that I would be so into the print that is most often associated with a tablecloth or picnic blanket? Not me. But here I am, completely obsessed with this print. Not only does it come in an array of colors (red/white, pink/white, blue/white, yellow/white, etc.) but it comes in an array of styles. My favorite so far, and I’m not done, is the black and white or black and cream version. For no other reason than I just love the classic look of mixing black and white/cream. But I do enjoy the other colors and will be putting them on display very soon. Stay tuned. For now, let’s just revel in how gorgeous this gingham maxi skirt is.

Maxi skirts are one of my favorite things to wear during the summer. They are fun, flirty, feminine and comfortable. Add gingham to the mix and it’s pure magic! There’s something about wearing this skirt that gives off happy, carefree vibes. And even in the summer heat, I feel so cool. You’ve seen gingham on the runway, in stores and plenty of street style pictures and you’ve more than likely seen it in many versions. While gingham has the reputation of being a pattern for the “young,” in 2017, it is so much more. From silhouettes that can be worn in the office (i.e. blazers, dress shirts and pencil skirts) to styles that can be taken into night (i.e. bustier or an off-the-shoulder fitted mini dress) the gingham print has something for all. And believe me, anyone can look amazing in it.

Now…the grid-like pattern can be a little tricky, so be sure not to overdo it, especially if you are a first-timer. Here are a few tips when styling your gingham look: 1) if you are wearing a lot of the print, be sure to pick accompanying pieces that are subtle in color and style, 2) break up the monotony with a structured belt or scarf so that the pattern doesn’t overwhelm and 3) have FUN! You’ll be sure to look amazing whether you’re on the beach, at brunch or in the boardroom.

Today’s pick: black and white/cream gingham print maxi skirt with cream silk camisole, a black structured belt with classic beige and black ballet heel and a mini bucket bag.

Skirt: (Asos); cami (Club Monaco); belt (Gucci, great option here and here); shoes (Chanel, similar here); bag (Forever 21)
