Jumpsuiting for NYE

Okay, ladies, what are you wearing for NYE? It’s only a few weeks away so don’t procrastinate. Take a look at one of my top favs to ring in the new year: the metallic jumpsuit. I love jumpsuits for so many reasons. They come in a variety of styles, they are chic, they have the two-for-one factor, they’re easy to style and when done right, they give you that SURPRISE/WOW factor above and beyond any dress or pant/top combo!

If you have a semi-formal or formal event (not just NYE) please consider a jumpsuit. It makes a stand out statement due to the expectation that long gowns are the only types of formal wear. Because of the different styles though, we can’t just choose any jumpsuit, when achieving that elegant, sophisticated look. And since the jumpsuit is unexpected, it really can cut NO corners on detail (i.e. fabric, flow, style). Be sure to look for sequins, metallics, lace, silk…all of the things you’d find in a formal dress, and don’t be afraid to be a little extra with it.

This jumpsuit is perfect for the occasion. Just look at the shimmer. How about the one shoulder AND that bow (heart eyes emoji!!!). This goes without saying, but I’ll say it. No matter the material or style, a formal jumpsuit must be floor length. No cutting corners fabrics on this one. I like the mystique of actually not knowing if it’s a dress. So let’s make it difficult for onlookers to guess.

That’s pretty easy, right? Jumpsuits can be a great option to the formal dress. Just be sure that the jumpsuit is in itself formal–has all the elegance of what you expect in a formal dress–sequins, velvet, silk, etc. It also should have great detail, whether it’s a bow, ruffles or lace and it should flow effortlessly. And just because you’re wearing pants, doesn’t mean you can skimp on the shoes. You want to stay with the theme of more is better when it comes to shoes. That means pull out the metallics, the crystals and all the drama. It will tie everything together nicely. Last but not least, the jumpsuit has to fit perfectly. REPEAT AFTER ME: THE JUMPSUIT HAS TO FIT PERFECTLY. No matter how elegant or sophisticated it looks online or in the store, make sure it fits your body. If you’re tall, go for the ultra long, sweeping the ground bottoms and if you’re not as tall, go for the cut that is right below the ankle. In my opinion, jumpsuits that fit at the waist and loose at the legs are the most flattering, but I’ve seen tapered ones that look great as well. However, I save those for my casual looks. Casual post ideas forthcoming.

So ladies, I hope I’ve helped with looking for and finding the perfect piece for your NYE party or any other formal event. Don’t be afraid to do the unconventional. Just keep it elegant, dramatic and fun and you’ll be smiling from ear to ear (like me) with confidence.

Today’s pick: silver metallic one-shoulder jumpsuit with metallic strappy pumps, a metallic clutch and emerald earrings.

Jumpsuit (Macy’s); shoes (Saks); bag (sold out online but in stores, similar here and here); earrings (Misayo House)

Thanks for stopping by!! I’d love to hear your feedback!!
